About Sir Christopher Hatton Academy

Graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2015 Sir Christopher Hatton Academy are pleased to be Wellingborough's first high performing convertor academy and we are extremely proud of our reputation as the leading comprehensive academy in the local area.

In January 2014 we became a Multi-Academy Trust called Hatton Academies Trust; our aim is to build a family of academies in Wellingborough working together to provide the highest standards of primary and secondary education to our children. We are dedicated to sustaining our position as a centre of academic excellence from 3-18 years of age, for the benefit of all our children.

We are very proud to sponsor Victoria Primary Academy and Oakway Academy; two mulit-cultural primary schools in the heart of our community and Ecton Village Primary serving a local rural community.

Our Academies are exceptional places to study and work. We have a proud history of educating young people from Wellingborough. Our mission is to develop the potential of all students, both in the classroom and outside by “aiming for excellence in all that we do” and encouraging students and staff to do the same.

Our most valuable asset is our talented and dedicated team of highly qualified teaching and support staff. They provide care, guidance, support and inspiration to all students in a learning environment characterised by high standards of behaviour and mutual respect.

Sir Christopher Hatton is the lead school for the Hatton Teaching Schools Alliance (established 2015) and we take the professional development of all our staff very seriously. With other local teaching schools we offer a range of development opportunities for our staff including Initial Teacher Training through Schools Direct and Teach First, our very successful NQT and NQT+1 programmes, Improving Teacher Programme, Outstanding Teacher Programme and onto leadership development such as NPQML and NPQSL.

Located in the market town of Wellingborough the schools are easily accessible by road & rail. Excellent road links (eg A14, A45, A1, M1, M6) ensures Northamptonshire has easy access to many major towns and cities across the country (eg Peterborough, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham). Wellingborough is surrounded by beautiful countryside and rural villages with access to a vast range of outdoor leisure activities to enjoy. Wellingborough is connected by rail with the nearby towns of Kettering, Corby, Market Harborough, Bedford & Luton, and London is less than an hour away!

What people say about us

The school has offered me real and frequent opportunities for growth and development, both professionally and personally. I’ve always felt fully supported by the academy’s infrastructure, but this was especially the case in my first year of teaching: I was allowed to find my own voice and style, but I was supported every step of the way

- Alex Mackenzie-Wright, Teacher of English.

The Science department have been fully involved with my professional development as a teacher, I have improved my teaching practice far more that I could have ever imagined since starting at Hatton

- Karen Smith, Teach First Trainee

The school creates an ethos where all children genuinely want to learn and truly understand the value of learning

- Paula Willars, Head of MFL

Hatton is a vibrant, diverse community that knows how to work hard and plays as a team - whether it is a community charity fundraiser or an inter-house challenge, events are very well-supported by staff and students alike in a spirit of friendly rivalry. Charity weeks are a regular fixture on our calendar and the students all HAV a say in their house charity of the year

- Keren Gunn, Senior Assistant Principal

Team Hatton’ is the most professional, well organised and truly inspirational group of people that I have ever had the pleasure of working alongside. Hatton is a place in which every student is afforded the opportunity to succeed. Nobody slips through the net; everybody is pushed to be the best that they can be

- Clare Raku, Senior Assistant Principal

The best thing about Hatton is the staff, everyone is helpful and supportive and we all pull together

- Jenny Coe, Head of Business, IT & Computing
