About The Queen Katherine School
The Queen Katherine School is an 11-18 Academy with over 1200 students currently on roll.
As part of a Multi-Academy Trust we provide the best possible opportunities for our students and staff with nationally recognised CPD opportunities. We are involved in the North West maths hub which uses evidence based research and collaboration to innovate and improve practice.
Students benefit from fantastic facilities and a wide-range of extra-curricular opportunities with numerous trips and visits throughout the academic year and over 50 clubs running during the week.
We have a constant focus on improving the quality of the education we deliver and time is given each week to developing Learning and Teaching across the school. Great emphasis is also placed on the community element of school life and this can be seen throughout the school in our ‘Proud to Belong’ ethos.
Kendal is known as the gateway to the Lake District, being approximately 9 miles from Windermere and around 30 miles from Keswick. The other lakes are all within easy reach of the town, as are locations for walks and rambles, both gentle and demanding. The scenic surroundings, low crime rate and vibrant community activities add to Kendal’s appeal.
Situated to the South of the Lake District, six miles from junction 36 of the M6 motorway, and only a few miles from the sea, Kendal is especially well placed to cater for walkers, mountain bikers, canoeists, climbers and a host of other outdoor pursuits.
The first thing that struck me when I joined The Queen Katherine School was the sheer amount of opportunities on offer. I think that what you learn outside of conventional lessons is crucial to building you as a person - this experience is unlike any other school in the area. Something that is often overlooked is that the teachers want you to succeed. They always try their hardest to assist you, even if it means working extra hours. The work ethic of the teachers greatly inspires us and I hope that one day we could work as hard as some of the teachers in this school.- Ned (Head Boy)
One of the first things that grabbed my attention about The Queen Katherine School was the phenomenal performing arts department and how much time and effort goes into the plays they put on. Another thing that I was amazed by was the commitment that teachers had to not only their work but to students was unbelievable. Teachers will stay late or during lunch and break to help or explain things to you that you do not understand, having such great role models really helps exceed our role in society. The facilities this school has to offer are amazing from a wide range of sports, arts and academic opportunities.- Tara (Head Girl)
