About Winchmore School
Winchmore is a thriving multicultural 11-18 comprehensive school with a commitment to achievement for all. The school had a very positive Ofsted in February 2010 describing Winchmore as a good school with care guidance and support and community cohesion being graded as outstanding.
“Among the most striking features of this good, culturally diverse school is its sense of community, underpinned by an impressively strong and pervasive ethos of mutual respect and care for the individual
“Inspectors were impressed by the outstanding network of pastoral care and academic guidance”
“The school’s ethos, the range of facilities provided and the inclusiveness of the curriculum ensure that equality of opportunity for all in this strikingly diverse community is secure.”
The quality of teaching was good overall with some outstanding practice. Results have risen over the last four years, and we provide good value added for the majority of our students. In 2010 our overall contextual value added score was 1032 at KS4, and in 2011 our value added was 1021. In July 2011 63% of all students achieved 5+A*-C including English and Maths and 93% achieved 5+ A*-C grades. However we know we can achieve even more in the future.
The school is situated in an extremely pleasant green site. In September 2009 we completed an £8 million Targeted Capital Project providing a new Science Block, with specialist accommodation for Drama, Textiles and Food, a new reception area, additional ICT rooms and a much larger Library / Learning Resource Centre. The English Faculty was relocated into a refurbished suite of rooms and enjoy excellent facilities.
Winchmore is a very successful and improving school where innovation and creativity are greatly valued. We are constantly reviewing and evaluating our practice and provision in order to improve. In September 2009 we introduced Vertical Tutoring which has proved very successful. Over the last few years we have enjoyed a number of major achievements and successes including:
• Investor in People Status (2003, 2006, 2009)
• NAACE and the new ICT Mark.
• Arts College Status, an outstanding Arts Faculty
• Artsmark Gold Award
• Full International Schools Award
• Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA). Re-accredited 2012
• NACE Challenge Award for Excellence in our provision for Talented and Gifted
• Selected by OFSTED to feature in a good practice guide on our extended schools provision
• Winners of Enfield Mayors Science Award 2009
• Winner of Enfield Mayors Enterprise Award 2009 and 2010
• Recognised by SSAT for being one of the ‘Most Improved schools’ over 3 years, and for our ‘Success in Value Added’.
The staff at Winchmore share a can do attitude and a belief that every child matters. This appointment will play a role in ensuring that every single member of staff makes a real difference to the lives of our students.
