A lesson which aims to explore how students can incorporate the theories of seminal feminists Gilbert and Gubar and Fredrick Wilhelm Nietzsche (Nihilism). Lesson gives an overview of the theories with key quotes/ excepts taken from each to aid understanding. Theories are interlinked with questions about ‘Macbeth’ e.g. ‘which characters in the play are involved in a ‘turning away’ from God and why?’ Next, some quotes from ‘Macbeth’ for students to consider/ link to the concepts and a model answer follows to demonstrate how the theories can be deployed. Task on Feminism and peer assessment task follows. The lesson was designed for a top set year 10 or 11 group.
