Using an imaginary window to inspire imaginary images.
This idea encourages students to write intriguing poems based on looking out of an imaginary window.
The rhyme scheme is abcc so each stanza has four lines.
The stanza plan which is repeated is:
First line: What can you see from the (building) window?
Second line: a question
Third line: a more specific question
Fourth: another specific question
So each stanza is composed of four questions and that pattern is repeated throughout the whole poem.

Starter
Ask students to write a list of different types of buildings and different types of windows.
Ideas:

  1. Lighthouse
  2. Church
  3. Castle
  4. Windmill
  5. Sky scrapper.
Then read the example poem to them.
The example poem is provided together with some top tips.
