This SOW teaches rhythm to students using boomwhackers or wak-a-tubes. I have attached the music and the powerpoint that I use, as well as some music just using colours and not notes. It could be adapted for other instruments but the principle will be the same, teaching students the basics of rhythm before they move onto learning staff notation.
