This is an aid for students being introduced to Shakespeare’s language. It consists of:

  • Two versions of a 25-word matching activity where students have to match the Shakespearean word to the modern equivalent. The words have been selected based on some of the most frequently recurring Shakespearean terms.

  • Examples provided of the words in use with quotes taken from Romeo & Juliet
    Two examples of subject-verb-object inversion.

  • Two crosswords, one where students are given the Shakespearean term and have to find the modern equivalent, and one vice versa. The words are the same as the ones from the earlier activity to help consolidation.

  • This set of activities was designed to be used in conjunction with the PowerPoint presentation “Introduction to Shakespeare’s Life, Times & Language”, but can also be used independently.
