Bring Year 7 or Year 8 intake students up to speed with secondary English while monitoring progress through the pack’s built-in assessment. This is the first of three packs designed for the terms of the foundation year.

Activities cover personal and creative writing, giving instructions, speech marks, nouns, organising ideas, conjunctions, writing for different audiences and varying vocabulary. Other tasks develop speaking and listening, diary writing, storyboards, letters, interviews and reading between the lines.

The teachers’ notes set out the aims and focus of each lesson, with student and teacher assessment prompts to help you set individual targets and identify progress. The general guidelines offer advice on preparation, lesson management, differentiation and follow-up work.

Designed for KS3 English, supported English and integrated studies sessions. Most worksheets combine discussion with individual or group activities; the general guidelines suggest allowing approximately an hour per lesson. The original assessment grids are included.
