Miriam Hyman was killed in the “7/7” London bombings on 7th July, 2005. In her memory, The Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust collaborated with teachers to create Miriam’s Vision, units of work for use across the Key Stage 3 curriculum. The unique, high quality lesson plans, written by teachers for teachers, contain an editable powerpoint, worksheets (PDF), video links and guidance notes.

The aim is to promote social cohesion in response to the circumstances of Miriam’s death.

In this unit, learners acquire familiarity with basic movements in Odissi dance. In doing so they learn by experience aspects of a different culture and compare with their own.

This unit contains 6 tasks.
• Task 1: An introduction to Miriam and her link to Odissi
• Task 2: Linking Odissi to local dance culture
• Task 3: Observing and analysing the features of Odissi
• Task 4: Learning a short Odissi sequence
• Task 5: Choreographing a sequence
• Task 6: Performance
