This worksheet is used to help pupils understand what happens during the electrolysis of molten ionic compounds. Pupils label the diagrams so they can see what ions are attracted to the anode and cathode during each electrolysis and hence use that as a starting point to write and balance the half equations that occur at each of the electrodes. Emphasis should also be placed on what is actually oxidised and reduced and what actually is produced as a result of these procedures.
