EYFS Pre Writing Skills (2-5)

This resource introduces EYFS pre-writing patterns designed to support children in building the muscle strength, coordination, and control they need before formal handwriting begins.

The pack explains the importance of early mark-making and provides engaging pattern activities linked to familiar images that children can easily connect with:

“c” shapes → circles, spirals, rainbows

“l” shapes → tall lines, ladders, towers

“r” shapes → arches and bridges

By practising these shapes, children rehearse the movements required for letters such as c, o, a, d, g, q; l, t, i, k, h; and r, n, m, h.

The worksheets and guidance help children strengthen fine motor skills while enjoying fun, theme-based patterns, encouraging confidence and positive associations with early writing.
