Excellent, comprehensive, engaging, and detailed 24-minute documentary. The novel film combines re-enactment with historical, military, neurological, and psychological research to assess Joan’s character with respect to hearing voices, pain tolerance, determination etc. 21 questions covering: childhood and early life, voices, travel to the court of Charles VII; the Hundred Years’ War context; English troops unprepared for extended battle at Orleans, Joan wounded – reviewed by an arms and armour medievalist; MRI scans of atheists vs Catholics withstanding pain; Charles VII crowned; Joan captured, tried and convicted of heresy; confession; confession withdrawn; her strength of mind; canonization in 1920.

Teacher discretion! Watch the whole film BEFORE showing in class. Brief manky scenes as Joan’s wound is treated; still image of self-immolation during Viet Nam war.

Differentiated! Both versions look very similar but “B” version has subtle clues. Questions right up to the end, no slack time! Creates a great intro / summary / homework resource. Question sheet, answer sheet; very easy to mark. .doc & .pdf. Link to video on all sheets.

Please check that you can access the video before you download these sheets. All the links work when I upload. If my links no longer work, the videos may still be found elsewhere on YouTube, National Geographic etc.
