Summary of passage

Katherine Johnson, an incredible mathematician, helped NASA send astronauts to space. Despite facing challenges as an African American woman, she became the first African American woman to attend West Virginia University’s graduate school. At NASA, she was known as a “human computer” and her calculations were trusted more than the computer machines. She played a crucial role in sending the first American astronaut into space and in the Apollo 11 mission. Despite facing discrimination, Katherine never gave up and her story became famous in the movie “Hidden Figures.” Katherine’s legacy lives on as she inspired many to pursue careers in STEM. She passed away at the age of 101, but her contributions to mathematics and space exploration will always be remembered.
