Each puzzle is a 5x5 grid (excluding the operators and result boxes) where numbers are arranged with addition (+) and subtraction (-) operators, and equality signs (=) at the end of each row and column. The grids consist of:

  • Numbers (some filled, some blank and represented by shaded squares).
  • Operators (+ or -) between the numbers.
  • Equality signs (=) followed by a result number at the end of each horizontal row and vertical column.

The objective of these puzzles is to fill in the missing numbers (represented by the shaded squares) such that all the arithmetic equations, both horizontally (across) and vertically (downs), are true. For example, in Puzzle 1:

  • The first row is “9 + [blank] + 2 + 6 = 17”
  • The first column is “9 + [blank] + 4 + 3 = 16”

The document includes a total of 16 pages of puzzles and 7 pages of answers.
