On Saturday 26 April 2015, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scales truck the poor, landlocked and mountainous Asian state of Nepal. By 29 April 2015, the death toll in Nepal had risen to more than 5,000.

This resource consists of an assembly, a slideshow presentation and an accompanying script. The assembly was written for KS3 learners but may be adapted as required for older or younger pupils.The resource explores why some disasters are worse than others, ways of responding to disasters and ideas for how young people can get involved.
