3D Shapes
Key Stage: 2 ★★★

Wag worms are born as a cube. Each year they grow by one cube in any direction, except on their face. Can you find all the shapes a wag worm in its third year might be?

This activity gives you a good opportunity to encourage pupils to make sense of, and interpret, situations. It also gives them a chance to share ways of convincing you they have found all the possibilities, which is quite a challenge in this problem.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

A really good game for children in KS2 to approach problem solving with shape and predicting skills. The teachers notes are helpful for how to start the task. Wig Worms are a really clever name too!
