SHAKESPEARE TODAY INTRO (2 -3 lessons! Using engaging video clips (included) and current topics and issues which are in abundance in Shakespeare's many works but non more than Romeo & Juliet. These lessons explore a full range of contrasting themes (love/hate, friends/enemies, parents/children etc.) in Romeo and Juliet and also across several modern films including The Titanic, The Dark Knight and The Lion King (clips included) encouraging pupils to recognise and write about the similarities between the themes and characters of these films and R & J.

PROLOGUE: This lesson explores a full range of contrasting themes (love/hate, friends/enemies) in Romeo and Juliet as introduced in the prologue. Focus is given to Shakespeare's Language and developing analysis skills by considering the contextual significance and the effects of the structural method of introducing the play with a revealing prologue.

SHAKESPEARE'S WORLD: Using active approaches to develop an understanding of Shakespeare's Life and Times and the World in which he lived.

GENDER EQUALITY: Using Emma Watson's U.N. Gender Equality speech (clip included) to promote discussion and highlight the relevance of this theme in modern society before leading into guided/group annotation of the relevant scene/theme focus and GCSE style analytical response exploring the theme of gender in R & J.

CRIME & THE LAW: introduced using engaging video clips from modern films to promote discussion and highlight the relevance of this theme in modern society before leading into guided/group annotation of the relevant scene/theme and GCSE style analytical response exploring the themes of Crime & The Law in R & J.

FAMILY: Pupils are introduced to the theme using engaging video clips from modern soap operas to promote discussion and highlight the relevance of this theme in modern society before leading into group narrative planning.

ROMEO: Shakespeare's presentation of character, specifically Romeo. Images are used to promote discussion and highlight the relevance of this character in modern society as well as throughout history before leading into a guided/group annotation of key extracts and GCSE style analytical response exploring Shakespeare's presentation of Romeo.

JULIET: Shakespeare's presentation of character, specifically Juliet. Images are used to promote discussion and highlight the relevance of this character in modern society as well as throughout history before leading into a guided reading of key extracts and GCSE style analytical responses exploring Shakespeare's presentation of Juliet.

I absolutely love, love, love the make up of the slides - wonderful visual content - and the absolutely amazing ideas that really do make Shakespeare more relevant and relatable to students today.<br /> The only thing I'm a bit disappointed with: some of the slides cannot be altered and there are a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes.
