This is a nice activity for students to consolidate their understanding of substitution. As explained students have to work out the value of the expression at the middle of the spider by substituting the values on each leg. This is probably more suited to lower ability KS3 as each expression contains just one unknown and at most two steps. You could use this at any stage of a lesson and could easily display it on the IWB to save on copying. Thank you for sharing.
