Plenary / short problem-solving task on surface area. Finding the surface area of a non-standard 3D shape. Numbers are simple and only prior knowledge needed is area of shapes made from squares so the difficulty is just in applying skills! Hints: How many faces are there? Can you sketch all the faces? My Year 10s enjoyed trying to solve it as quickly as possible.

This is such a great plenary/starter activity, or stretch question. As another commentator said though, the surface area is 114cm squared as the top surface is 11cm squared.

The largest top surface is 11cm squared not 12cm squared. Easily fixed on the slides and I like the activity.
