Dear Reader,

How did William control a country he had conquered by force? This lesson unit introduces students to the Feudal System and explains how the Normans used it to secure power and maintain control over England after 1066.

All lessons follow the same clear and consistent model, ensuring students are taught in a coherent way and always understand where they are in their learning.

LO1 describe what the feudal system was
LO2 explain how it operated in practice
LO3 evaluate how effectively it allowed William to control England

Each lesson is structured around three tasks of increasing difficulty. The first two tasks are designed for group or class assessment and focus on building and securing understanding. The final task is an individual GCSE-style written response, allowing you to circulate the classroom and provide targeted one-to-one support with students’ writing.
