1 HOUR LESSON-FULLY INTERACTIVE-READY TO TEACH

Dear Colleague,

This lesson is part of a 10-lesson unit on Norman control of England and focuses on the castle-building programme introduced by the Normans to secure and maintain power after 1066.

LO1 understanding of why the Normans built so many castles
LO2 how William used this system
LO3 evaluate the effectiveness of castles as a method of preventing rebellion

The lesson is structured around three tasks of increasing difficulty. The first two tasks are designed for group or whole-class assessment and focus on building secure understanding through discussion, interpretation, and source work. The final task is an individual GCSE-style written response, allowing you to move around the classroom and provide targeted one-to-one support with students’ historical writing.
