This is a topical lesson focusing on the current situation in the Ukraine. Students carry out a Carousel activity that looks at a time line of the events leading up the current situation. They then further investigate the the reasons for Russia's involvement before being asked to form their own opinions on the situation.

I have used this with year 9 and the differentiation is excellent. I split the lessons up over 3 lessons (adding a bit for the third lesson) and the range of activities are good and varied so no one got bored. Thanks for an excellent resource

What a brilliant lesson! I have shown it to my Head of Department as a great example of successful differentiation in a mixed ability group - something we are struggling to develop in MFL. I have adapted this lesson to use for the Wesh Baccalaureate with our Y12 cohort and am trying it out on Wednesday. Thanks for these excellent resources.

Best effort I've seen at trying to teach pupils about this topic in a neutral way, without absorbing the propaganda from EITHER side. Unfortunately though, the main problem that still lingers is that the issues behind this situation are far too deep and engrained to be taught in a single lesson, and should be left to the History teachers to deal with over a longer length of time. Trying to do something like this otherwise only barely scratches the surface.
