How to teach students to write a meditation on an object in the style of the Great Romantic Poets.
The Great Poets of the Eighteenth century were great meditators. They could, for example, consider deeply an interesting, old or unusual object and express their thoughts eloquently. The aim of this exercise is to use their example to inspire interesting writing from your students.
A step by step method is suggested with notes, guidance, prompts and suggestions and then using that method a fully worked example is provided to demonstrate how the ideas might be worked up into full writing.
Once the students have written their own mediations inspired by their own chosen objects you may wish them to read theirs to the class , maybe to the accompaniment of atmospheric music, with a picture of the object shown on a large screen.
