With levels going, my school will now grade students using foundation, secure and deep at KS3. As teachers we should teach to the secure level and differentiate up and down as appropriate.

The new geography GCSE looks to be considerably more difficult with less emphasis on description and more on higher level thinking such as explanation and evaluation. In particular, inference of source requires explanation and evaluation and as such I have tried to incorporate more of these skills into KS3. In order to do this I have kept the AO’s the same as the GCSE.

This is a work in progress and as there is very limited detail on what the AO’s actually mean at GCSE it will certainly change as the picture becomes clearer. As an NQT I would love some feedback on this as I'm sure there are some more experienced colleagues who could add some really useful insights. Alternatively I hope it helps others make a start.
Many thanks,
Tom
