A simple game to support children’s knowledge of number bonds to 10 with a Remembrance Day theme. Children count the red poppies and click on the correct digit on the number line that makes 10. For example, children are shown three poppies and asked how many more poppies would make 10. Children click on 7 to show that they know that 3 + 7 = 10. This resource could be used as part of whole class teaching. Children can draw the poppies on small whiteboards to reinforce their knowledge of number bonds to 10. As a follow up activity children could make 10 poppies using a variety of different materials and show their knowledge of number bonds to 10, by placing the poppies in different arrangements to match given calculations.

Easter Chicks Subitising Seven or NOT 7 is a simple interactive whiteboard game to develop early perceptual and conceptual subitising skills. Children are presented with varying arrangements of Easter chicks. Ask: How many can you see? How do you see it? Children identify whether there are 7 chicks or NOT seven by clicking on the correct answer card i.e., 7 or not seven. For example, I can see that 3 and 4 make seven etc… The game is 27 slides in length and fully editable to create other amounts. Children can pair up with a partner to play the game during continuous provision by holding up 7 fingers or not. Their partner identifies whether they are showing 7 or not. Children can arrange easter chicks in as many different patterns as possible. Ask: How many different ways can we make 7? This resource is ideal for use on the interactive whiteboard to develop perceptual and conceptual subisiting skills and for varied maths continuous learning provision within the classroom with an Easter theme. This resource presents varied assortments of Easter Eggs on each slide. Children view each slide and see if they can identify 5 eggs. How many different ways can they see five? For example, 1 red and 4 blue eggs makes 5; 2 yellow and 3 red eggs makes 5 etc… The subitising Easter Egg cards can be printed off and laminated for various games in continuous provision and small group activities. Game 1 - Find all the cards showing 5 eggs Game 2 - Find two cards that make 5 altogether Game 3 - Pick a card. Identify the amount and add one more egg to each card shown Game 4 - Roll a die. Find the matching number of Easter eggs. The winner is the one who collects the most cards within a time limit. Roll a six have another try. Game 5 - Pick a card. Double the amount of Easter eggs. This is a simple IWB number comparison game designed in Powerpoint. Children are presented with two 5-frames with varying amounts of counters on each slide. Children need to click on the 5-frame showing the most or fewest counters. The game is 20 slides in length. This game links well with Whiterose Maths planning activities for Autumn term for EYFS. It provides is a good introduction for children to begin to develop their subitising, composition and number comparison skills using a 5-frame. An added challenge is to explore how many more counters would be needed to be added or taken away to make the amounts shown in the 5-frames the same. Children are presented with various domino arrangements (total amounts from six to ten) and say the number of spots they can see altogether. Help the Dinosaur count the spots. A multi-purpose IWB resource designed to develop children’s early number knowledge using a ten-frame. Children are invited to say the amount of people (blue counters) upstairs, downstairs and altogether, and calculate one more and one less shown on the ten- frame and or how many more blue counters would make ten. Children are invited to say how many people (blue counters) they can see on the bus. They might also be asked to add one more or one less to the bus or how many more would make 10. This resource aligns well with WhiteRose Maths Units for EYFS and Yr1 although is not endorsed by WRM. As well as supporting early number recognition skills this game strengthens compositional knowledge of amounts within 10. This IWB Maths resource can work well as part of whole class teaching, small guided group work and or 1-1 adult-led teaching and learning. In addition to using this resource on the IWB, a selection of slides could be printed off and used during continuous learning provision. This may provide great opportunities for further number exploration of composition of ten. Children can be invited to place counters/cubes to represent varying numbers of people on the bus. For example, five people upstairs and two downstairs equals 7 OR four people upstairs and three people downstairs also equals 7. This is an ideal resource to develop children’s early counting skills and strengthen their compositional understanding.
