An outstanding fun lesson on Adding Subtracting and Multiplying fractions. A fun real life application of using operations with fractions to Shapes to work out area and perimeter of rectangular shapes. Using misconception as a “Starter” to address students’ knowledge on adding fractions. Using teaching at this point to address the misconception. Activity 1: Hit 12 activity where students will play the game in pairs to add fractions where it lands on the part of the column. First to reach to 12 or close to 12 wins. Main task worksheet for students to practise Adding, Subtracting and Multiplying fractions. Extension: Working out perimeter and area with fractional lengths. Answers provided. Using plenary to check for understanding, “Spot the mistakes”. Good assessment to check students’ understanding and checking if learning objectives are met.

Application of metric system and proportion in real life. Bespoke tasks to allow students to apply their metric system knowledge to real life situations. Working out the number of sugar of each drink (Lucozade, Ribena, Coca-cola, Lilt, Tropicana and Innocent) per litre, centilitre in Drinks table worksheet. Students use Nutrition table of each of the drinks and fill out the information of each drink. Then, work out the proportion. Same lesson plan tailored for mass as well. Includes detailed lesson plan with time, worksheet and powerpoint. A perfect cross-curricular based lesson where students can find out which drink in reality has the most sugar and how it affects your health (Science and PSHE cross curricular) Attached a lesson plan detailing the breakdown of the lesson with time duration of one hour in detail including questioning, misconception, blooms taxonomy Extension: Students work out the percentage daily allowance of sugar per litre for man and woman.
