I am passionate about teaching English, Psychology and Sociology to adolescents. I am also teaching English and SOSE Methods to M.Teach students. Here is a crisp and comprehensive way to teach students how to analyse a poem. A clear instruction for what to look for in a poem with helping questions is given on the first sheet. Students can be taught different aspects of poetry choosing a poem and following through the first sheet. On the second sheet, a template for different aspects similar to what is shown on the first sheet is provided for students to choose a poem of their interest and analyse that poem. This can further be cemented by asking students to choose a poem and analyse it as a group and based on the template they could make an oral presentation of their analysis.
