The new GCSE says that pupils need to use idioms in their speaking and writing in order to score a 9. Here is my attempt to shoehorn some common and easy to learn idioms.

A blankety blank style guessing game. Pupils make guesses at the obscured word. Click on the obscuring box to reveal the word. Easy to adapt and personalise.

An A4 Sheet which allows teachers and pupils to add comments and reflect on their work. It includes a list of good learning behaviours for a language learner. Easy to adapt.

Mildly amusing Blankety Blank Style game. Pupils hold up answers on whiteboard from a given selection. Buyers can easily substitute in known names and places. Click on the actual circle to reveal hidden word.

Practises postition and form of adjectives used to describe houses. Includes follow up worksheet with differentiated activities.

Conti Style No Snakes No Ladders on the topic of Yr 7 French hobbies. Pupils play in groups of three. One person has the referee’s answer sheet and has to judge the quality of the players’ translations. If it is wrong the referee says what it should be so that they know for next time and sends them back to the beginning. Written around Studio 1 Module 3

A couple of sentence builders, a game of mind reader, and a battleships game. Practise adjectives and different phrases to say which presents you would like hand have received.
