In this lesson, students are continuing their learning on healthy lifestyle and habits and today’s lesson is a bit more science-oriented. First, students are discovering the different categories of nutrients, learning about the roles of these nutrients and then categorizing food items into the different nutrient groups. Students are then asked to describe and compare 2 plates. For the more able students, they also need to explain why one of those plates is healthier and what could be done with the second plate to improve it. One activity for homework is also provided, which is to design a healthy plate and writing a paragraph, in French. Students are given 10 photographs of children from around the world taken with the food they eat in an entire week. In this lesson, students analyse these pictures; prepare short debates about who is healthy and who is not, and finally write two short pieces of writing on (1) giving advice on healthy habits to some of these children and (2) expressing who’s diet is the most similar to theirs and why. Secondary School - Food and Healthy Lifestyle Unit - Lesson 17 This resource is the seventeenth lesson of the unit “ la nourriture et la santé ”. In this lesson, students are working on revising everything they have covered over the past 16 lessons of the unit. The lesson starts with creating a mindmap about the unit content (students are guided by the teacher but work by themselves and therefore will all create something different). Then, a revision worksheet can be handed out to the students to revise the key elements of the unit (to be done by themselves or in pairs/groups). Finally, students reflect on the content of this unit, checking that the Unit questions given at the start were answered (IB style questions).
