This quiz focuses on words that had new meanings in the 1950s, and are still in use today. I did deliberately chose not to use too much dated slang, and for words like ‘bread’ the alternatives are also definitions for bread, but they are formal ones. Personally I use this as part of a class on the development and changes in the English language

A fun game designed to review the 21 of the characters featured in the classic To Kill a Mockingbird. This PPT has students working in teams to answer questions on who characters are based on a one sentence description. For example - “I am much older than I appear” withe the answer of course being Calpurnia. As this is a game to provide some fun questions are hidden behind numbers 1-25, with the idea being that students earn points for getting questions correct, but behind four of the numbers is a rock which crushes their score down to zero.
