Engaging Minds, Broadening Horizons

A SCHOOL WHERE EVERY CHILD REALLY MATTERS!

If you would like to work in a school where 98% of staff are proud to work, 97% say they enjoy working here and creativity is at the heart of our vision then Seaham High School is the place for you.  If you want to develop, progress and thrive in an exciting, dynamic school, which values its staff then Seaham High School is the place for you. We believe our staff are our most important resource and invest heavily in them.  We offer you teaching facilities and an environment that are second to none. We offer you bespoke CPD, a relentless drive to improve, support and challenge. We offer you personalisation and a recognition that one- size does not fit all in education.  We offer you a caring and supportive environment where you feel able to take risks and be supported. We offer you an environment where we expect you to work hard, challenge yourself but consider your welfare, your workload and your work-life balance and strive for ways to improve it. We offer you our new state of the art facility on the beautiful East Durham Coast and a school and local community that are thriving. We offer you an intake that is expanding dramatically as a result of our ethos and growing reputation. What can you offer us?

We believe that the core purpose of our school is to engage the minds of all learners who attend in order to broaden their future by providing the opportunity to maximise life chances.

We offer everything needed to succeed, a curriculum that responds to the needs of each and every individual. Learning experiences that are diverse, flexible, rich, experiential and active. Dynamic personalised teaching and learning, high standards, high expectations and great challenges.

Our Vision:

“To enable the young people of Seaham to achieve the highest possible outcomes which they can use to continue their learning and make a valuable contribution to the global society in which we all now live. They should feel safe, secure, be free from prejudice and be able to develop a mutual respect for all others. Students should be ready to take on the challenges of the twenty-first century and leave school with hope for their future. They should have the confidence to take on new opportunities and know where to turn when a helping hand is required. When they leave, their minds have been engaged, their horizons have been broadened and they should have valued their educational experience.”

What people say about us

Seaham School is impressive not just for the results but for the richness of school life, underpinned by its creative initiatives engaging students of all abilities and present in every element of the curriculum.

- TES editor Ann Mroz said about the Creative School of the Year award

Far from adopting well-worn recipes for complying with Ofsted criteria to achieve its current status of good, it has been enthusiastically innovative. Seaham is indeed a role model for all other schools.

- Judges comments on awarding Seaham Creative School of the Year 2015

“Pupils are smart, confident and polite young people who are interested in their school, their progress and their future when they leave school. “ Parents, staff and pupils are all overwhelmingly positive about the school. A clear majority of parents and pupils would recommend Seaham High School to others and this is testament to the ethos you and your teams have established over the years.

- OFSTED

I feel proud to be part of such a supportive and aspirational school. I interviewed at the school and immediately felt a sense that Seaham is a happy school where the leadership team genuinely care about the staff and pupils. This has been a theme my first year at the school and I couldn't be happier that I made the move to this school.

- Staff

As a new member of staff i have been astounded by the level of support and high staff morale this school has. There is a great mutual respect between all levels of leadership and staff, i have never worked at a workplace so supportive. This supportive nature clearly motivates and drives members of staff. The high drive and ambition staff have is reflected onto students also. Behaviour is very good and there are also excellent supportive relationships between staff and students. The local community has areas of deprivation but the ambitious vision of the school enables all students to exceed in whichever path they wish to take. I work with the most hardworking staff i have ever had the pleasure of meeting and it is so refreshing to see everyone working toward the same goal-to encourage students to be the best they can be.

- Staff

Staff in this school appear to feel more valued than I have come across in my previous 3 schools/academies. The head teacher really makes the effort to know his staff and understands their needs.

- Staff

I feel that I may have left teaching altogether if I had stayed at my previous school. I cannot praise enough the support/CPD/encouragement/coaching/feedback I have been given by this school and the impact this has had on my practice and confidence in teaching.
