About Sherborne Qatar
Sherborne Qatar Senior School opened its doors to its first pupils in 2011 and since then it has established itself as a one of the high achieving premier independent schools in Qatar. With pupils from over 60 different nationalities, we are a truly international school. Our teachers are British educated and trained (the exceptions being our foreign language and Islamic Studies teachers), experienced subject specialists.
Sherborne Qatar is fortunate to be able to draw upon and share in the experience of our historic and prestigious home school in England. Sherborne Qatar has much in common with Sherborne School; both schools are dedicated to providing the best that British independent education can offer.
Qatar is a dynamic, ambitious and forward-thinking country. We want to nurture the same qualities and the key to this is encouraging our pupils to take responsibility for their own learning and for them to be active and reflective learners. We want to challenge our pupils and instill in them a passion for learning and betterment. “Education for life” is about developing reflective, adaptable and passionate lifelong learners.
As well as striving for academic excellence, Sherborne Qatar is also committed to cultivating responsible and compassionate citizens. Schools should strive for the highest academic standards, but education should also be about pupils learning about themselves and the rest of society. We aim to foster confident, responsible and emotionally intelligent global citizens.
Shared with Sherborne Preparatory School, our mission is to cultivate: “Well educated, well rounded individuals who have high aspirations and achieve their potential, in a happy and nurturing school.”
At the heart of what we do are our core values:
We want these core values to become the essence of our school, reflecting what we live and work by. At Sherborne Qatar we share a similar ethos and values to our sister school Sherborne Dorset.
We want our pupils to become positive role models, to embrace positions of responsibility and to develop a range of interests. To this end, we encourage pupils to explore their interests and embrace the extracurricular activities on offer. All pupils have the desire to achieve if encouraged to do so, and given the opportunities to do so.
Standards and expectations of work and behaviour are clear and high. We believe that pupils should be challenged, but not stressed.
We appreciate the importance of working closely with families; home and school share the responsibility for a child’s education and effective home school partnerships are based on mutual trust and respect. When schools and families work together, children have a far better chance of realising their full potential and being happy at school.
Most importantly Sherborne Qatar is a caring, inclusive, family-orientated and supportive school.
