About The Deepings School
The Deepings School is an 11 – 18 mixed comprehensive with the full ability range. Comprehensive status was granted in 1972 when the number on roll was 450. There are now nearly 1600 students with over 220 members of staff. The roll is stable with our current PAN set at 261 for each year group. Our Sixth Form is expanding rapidly and over the last two years has increased to 275 students. The school is popular and oversubscribed on an annual basis. A new, purpose built Sixth Form Centre opened in September 2013, followed by a ‘state of the art’ Science block in September 2015. A £500,000 ICT upgrade has resulted in a virtual system which is fast and up to date. We are currently planning the next phase of capital development programme which will include a Design & Technology/Art Centre.
The school was granted ‘academy status’ on the 1 February 2012 and is now a member of the CfBT Schools Trust (CST).
The school has developed a programme for training teachers and became a School Centred Initial Teacher Training establishment from September 2016. This brings many benefits to our students, staff and wider community.
The traditional picture of Lincolnshire is of a rural county which is flat and sparsely populated. This image ignores the beauty of the Wolds, the coast, the city of Lincoln and the glory of historic Stamford. Only 15 minutes away from The Deepings is the vibrant city of Peterborough, just a 50-minute rail journey from the theatres and shops of London. Within Lincolnshire there are a wide variety of schools and academies giving parents an unusually wide choice. We are proud to be one of the few truly all-ability schools in the county.
Located on the border with Cambridgeshire, the Deepings is an amalgamation of two villages, Market Deeping and Deeping St James. The current population of around 16000 looks set to continue to grow as a result of the continued influence of Peterborough, although the Deepings still retains its ‘village feel’. Children from several surrounding villages make up our traditional catchment. Housing is affordable and the nearby towns of Stamford, Spalding and Bourne provide attractive alternatives. The Deepings is also lucky to have four excellent Primary Schools, a very modern Health Centre, the usual array of sporting clubs and a Leisure Centre which is attached to the school.
