What’s included?
This pdf download includes x5 landscape orientation sheets featuring x23 2D Shapes with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane 2D shapes for (window) display.
What’s it for?
These colourful 2D shapes are designed to create a sense of wonder. When the sun shines through them, they cast beautiful coloured light onto the surfaces around them. As the sun moves, the colours will shift and change.
Learning Opportunities
This set provides a great way to help learners:
- Identify and name each of the 2D shapes.
- Explore their properties by counting the number of sides and corners.
- Notice the differences between shapes with straight sides, curved sides, or both.
A ‘2D shapes’ label is also included to display with the set. You can rearrange the shapes however you like to create different displays.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would appreciate a pop of colour shining through these shapes when the sun comes out!

Suggestions
For best results, we recommend making these letters from white card. Paper is too flimsy and see-through.
You will also need a set of coloured acetate or cellophane sheets, which are inexpensive and can be found online.
Preparation Tips
For a neater look and extra durability, we suggest backing each 2D shape with another piece of white card to conceal the coloured acetate. However, please note that doing this will double the amount of time and work required, and you will need x10 sheets of A4 card instead of x5.
