This lesson explores the American War of Independence/American Revolution in the year 1775-6 and addresses the following focus questions:

  • Which side was most successful militarily in the first year of the war?
  • How did ideologies influence American ideas of independence?

The lesson includes the following activities: pair discussion starter, market stall activity, advertisement activity, plenary pair discussion. The lesson last approximately 1hr 30mins and includes differentiation in the form of groupwork and an extension task.

NOTE the lesson requires students to have prior knowledge of the First and Second Continental Congress. Access to the Access to History - The American Revolution & The Birth of a Nation 1740-1801 is also required.
