2x handouts that support the contextual understanding of two texts for comparison
1x worksheet with two examples of comparison essays that can be peer assessed to build a success criteria

Lesson 1:
An introduction to the 1990s for contextual appreciation of John Niven's Kill Your friends.
Activities built around the opening of Kill your friends

Lesson 2:
An introduction to the context of belief and religion for contextual appreciation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods.
Activities built around the opening of American Gods with some comparison to lesson 1.

Lesson 3 (would probably be stretched to a fourth lesson):
Student investigation and marking of existing comparison examples before developing a class response to a Key question about Kill your friends and American Gods.
