Fats are integral to the normal structure and functioning of our cells and tissues, but can specific fat-based diets have any effect on particular diseases or conditions? In this article we take two examples: omega fatty acids and mental health, and Lorenzo's oil and a genetic disease called adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).

Includes questions for discussion. One is based on a Ben Goldacre blogpost about research into the potential benefits of omega-3 fish oil supplements.
