Make library periods and reading lessons more active with this bundle of eight book-based activities for S1/S2 pupils. The resources encourage pupils to browse, explore genres, discover authors, discuss reading choices and recommend books.

Use the activities individually or choose a few for a library lesson, reading-for-pleasure session, form time or cover work. They include a mix of partner challenges, games and creative tasks.

Included

If I Wrote a Book worksheet (PDF): a creative book-planning activity.

Library Blurb Bingo (PDF): pupils find books to match the bingo squares and aim for four in a row.

Library Level-Up Challenge (PDF): six library quests with XP scoring.

Library Survivor Challenge (Word): pupils choose a book and explain why it deserves to stay in the library.

Library Scavenger Hunt (Word): 15 book-finding clues to complete with a partner.

Old Book Page Origami Bookmark (PDF): an illustrated guide to folding a bookmark from a page in a book pupils own.

S1 Genre Quest Library Game (PDF): a game-style hunt across six genres, with XP and a final book recommendation.

S2 Book and Author Race (Word): 25 book and author challenges for pupils to complete.

The bundle contains printable PDFs and editable Word documents. Most activities use books already available in the library. The origami activity also needs a page from a book pupils own and scissors; pupils should never remove pages from library or school books.
