Champions for Change IPC Literacy 3/4 Week Unit Year 6

Based on the Milestone 3 IPC Unit ‘Champions for Change’, this unit explores themes of democracy, government and representation. I have written an accompanying unit of work for English/Literacy (3 weeks plus an additional week on debating skills). This unit uses the Year 5/6 2014 National Curriculum objectives for reading and writing, exploring the features of formal speech, persuasive writing, rhetorical oracy, distinguishing between facts and opinion, writing cohesively, and using passive verbs for effect.

The unit focuses on environmental change, and uses young speech writers such as Severn Suzuki and Greta Thunberg’s addresses to the UN. The unit includes powerpoint slides, weekly plans, differentiated resources and word banks, and some planning templates for writing a balanced argument.
