Enzyme Practical: Temperature

Biology | Enzyme Activity | Ages 14–16

Investigate the effect of temperature on enzyme activity with four practical options: catalase, amylase, lipase and bromelain.

What’s Included?

For each enzyme:

  • Full investigation (4 pages): aim, background, hypothesis, variables, equipment, method, safety, results, calculations, graphing, conclusion and evaluation.
  • Lite practical sheet (1 page): a simplified hands-on investigation with method, safety and results table.
  • Technician notes (2 pages): equipment checklist, solution recipes, preparation, expected results, troubleshooting, safety and disposal.

The four investigations offer different ways to explore enzyme activity, from timing floating potato discs to investigating starch digestion and gelatine setting.

Technician notes include preparation quantities for 30 students working in pairs, with guidance for adapting other class sizes. Class-mean results tables are provided for the longer amylase and lipase investigations.

Files Included
  • 12 editable Word documents.
  • Print-ready PDFs.
  • Colour and black-and-white versions.

Suitable for Year 10–11 Biology (ages 14–16). Choose the full investigation for a detailed practical write-up or the Lite sheet for a shorter practical lesson.

A matching Effect of pH practical set is available separately.
