Unleash the excitement of outdoor learning with this vibrant EYFS resource designed to blend sensory exploration with foundational colour recognition. This Scavenger Hunt encourages the youngest learners in primary school education to step into their outdoor environment and develop a deep nature connection.
How the Resource Works
Students are given a simple activity sheet featuring eight key colours: blue, black, red, brown, white, green, yellow, and grey. Their mission is to go on a guided Colour Scavenger Hunt to find real-life examples of these colours in nature or the immediate surroundings.
For each colour box on the sheet, children must find a matching object, then draw it as they see it.
Recommendation: To make recording findings easy and accessible for little hands, we strongly recommend using clipboards! They provide a stable writing and drawing surface, making the outdoor environment a true outdoor classroom.
Natural Colour Examples
The natural world is full of colour! Here are some common examples children might find during their hunt:
Example from Nature/Outdoors
Blue: A patch of blue sky (on a sunny day) or a blue feather
Black: The damp , black soil
Red: A red berry (check for safety!) or a rose petal
Brown: The rough brown bark of a tree or a fallen dry leaf
White: A white cloud or the petals of a daisy
Green: A fresh blade of green grass or moss on a wall
Yellow: The bright yellow centre of a flower or a dandelion
Grey: A grey stone, pebble, or the trunk of certain trees
