GCSE Science / Physics - Nuclear Fission (PowerPoint and Lesson Plan)
This is a detailed lesson and PowerPoint explaining nuclear fission. This is the twelfth lesson in the Atomic Structure unit of work (P4).
The lesson covers the basic idea of splitting the atomic nucleus from neutron capture and expressing this as a diagram and nuclear equation. Chain reactions, nuclear bombs and nuclear power are also used to discuss fission in context. The good and bad aspects of fission are used to stimulate a discussion with a differentiated task list for pupils to then create work of their own on the topic.
There is a detailed lesson plan with notes on teaching this topic as well as ideas to assist the teacher in differentiating the lesson and setting homework; a PowerPoint also supports the lesson.
