This workbook is designed to help Higher Level Leaving Certificate English students feel more confident approaching Question B on Paper 1.

Many students struggle with Question B because they are unsure about the expectations of different text types. This resource breaks those expectations down clearly and gives students plenty of opportunities to practise writing in a range of formats.

The workbook covers a variety of common Question B genres including opinion pieces, editorials, open letters, blog posts, articles, news reports, speeches, reflections and letters. Each section explains what the question is asking students to do and provides reminders about structure, tone and language.

Students are supported with:

  • clear explanations of what examiners expect
  • simple format reminders for each text type
  • practical language tips to help students sound more confident and controlled in their writing
  • examiner advice highlighting what tends to gain higher marks
  • past Leaving Certificate Question B tasks for authentic exam practice
  • model sample answers
  • space for teacher or peer feedback

This resource works well for classroom practice, homework, or revision, and helps students build the confidence and structure they need to approach Question B successfully in the exam.

It’s particularly useful for teachers who want a ready-to-use practice workbook that walks students through the different Question B formats while giving them plenty of opportunities to write and improve.
