Activities cover letter shapes, size and spacing, joining, capitals, developing a personal style and writing at a useful pace. Pupils apply their skills through notices, letters, forms, a job application and other practical writing tasks. Use selected sheets to address particular needs or work through the pack as a course.

Teachers’ notes provide learning aims, classroom suggestions, answers where appropriate and extension activities. Staff can support individual pupils, pairs or groups and adapt practice to their needs. Provide ordinary writing materials and suitable handwriting guide paper for exercises that refer to a guidesheet.

The front matter was updated in October 2026 and includes practical guidance on teaching handwriting at secondary school and a Year 7 school self-audit. It addresses comfort, left-handed needs, progress checks and support for persistent difficulties. The original activities are retained; the guidance and audit are not statutory Year 7 objectives.
