This lesson introduces the process of seed dispersal for KS3 science students. This lesson can be used as part of a unit on the lifecycle of a plant or plant reproduction.
The lesson comes with a starter, research and presentation task for oracy, a plenary and a suggested homework task. The lesson assumes the formation of fruits and seeds have been covered (slides can be taken from this lesson on pollination and fruit formation).
This lesson has been designed to be accessible for students with low-level English with the use of large images and a focus on oracy. The presentation task comes with criteria and does not allow the use of devices, ensuring students do not copy-paste from search engines and read directly off presentation slides.
This material covers the following specification point from the UK KS3 science curriculum:
- reproduction in plants, including flower structure, wind and insect pollination, fertilisation, seed and fruit formation and dispersal, including quantitative investigation of some dispersal mechanisms
