This is an idea that I had when my children were young and played with Geomag. It struck me as a great way for pupils to work out for themselves the best three-dimensional shapes for molecules. I have mentioned it to a few people at AQA A-level meetings and had good feedback. Please feel free to give me any ideas – I think that there are many other possible applications when modelling structures etc. There are two powerpoints, one an instruction powerpoint, the other a lesson powerpoint for which I have worksheets to accompany.
