Lesson 4 of 8 in a series of lessons that links to the origins of the First World War.

This lesson examines the growth of militarism and the naval arms race.

Students will examine:

  • keywords, their definitions and consequences
  • information and comprehension on the naval arms race
  • a video and crib sheet on the naval arms race
  • a table to be completed documenting the arms race among six great powers

This is part of a series of lessons that aims to encompass the new 9-1 GCSE and IGCSE skills into Key Stage 3.

Lessons are colourful and engaging, include differentiated tasks using a range of methods, such as:

  • matching keywords
  • how to answer questions/structure
  • card-sort
  • chronological tasks
  • videos and crib sheets
  • arranging by significance
  • comprehension and questions
