Piecing Me Together - Art as Expression

A creative, reflective lesson where students explore how identity can be expressed through art, inspired by Jade’s use of collage to communicate her inner world.

Students consider how Jade uses collage to express the parts of herself that words alone cannot capture. Through discussion and modelling, they explore how textures, colours, and materials can symbolise aspects of identity such as culture, hobbies, values, or family influences.

The main task asks students to identify three parts of their own identity and explain which textures or materials would represent each one in a personal collage. Students write down their choices with clear reasoning, linking symbolism to meaning.
