One week of KS2 reading fluency sessions. These are designed to be around 15 minutes per day but can easily be extended to 25/30 with the inclusion of partner reads and performance reads (see notes on PP slides). Each day comprises of vocabulary work, followed by modelled, echo and choral reading, then quick retrieval and inference/vocab questions, designed to be undertaken on mini-whiteboards, or as discussions with partners.
These can be used as a starter to your reading lessons or as a short intervention. These have had significant impact on the fluency of the children I have used this with, when assessed against a fluency rubric, and also on their reading ages. The strategies are research-based, taking into account work from Herts for Learning, EEF and Rasinski.
This was designed for a lower-attaining Y5 group, but is suitable for use across KS2.
