Reception Preparatory Workbook

This workbook has been thoughtfully created to gently prepare your child for the structured phonics journey ahead through the Read Write Inc. programme. Aimed at Reception 2 learners (ages 5–6), it introduces and reinforces the foundational literacy skills children need before moving on to formal reading and writing.
At this stage, children are developing stronger listening skills, better pencil control, and a deeper awareness of sounds in spoken language. This book supports those early milestones by focusing on sound recognition, letter formation, and pre-blending skills through playful, engaging, and age-appropriate activities.
Children will:
Revisit and consolidate Set 1 letter sounds (m, a, s, d, t, etc.)
Engage in fun sound-matching and beginning sound activities
Strengthen fine motor skills through guided tracing and writing practice
Build confidence in identifying and saying letter sounds correctly
Practice simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word building
Develop early phonemic awareness an essential step before blending and segmenting
